Geoscience Applications Requirements for Petascale Systems
Session:
BoF-31
Event Type:
BOF
Time:
5:15pm - 6:45pm
Speaker(s)
:
Richard Dana Loft, Robert Lee Pennington
Location:
615-616
Abstract:
To address the challenges of creating a petacale system for Earth System sciences, an in-depth dialog must be developed between the scientific researchers, computational scientists with domain expertise and key system vendors. This process must be driven by clearly defined set of computational requirements from the geosciences community that are understood and internalized by the vendors early in the process of developing new petascale systems. Scientists and vendors are now at a critical juncture at which it is still possible to positively influence the design of end of the decade supercomputers relative to the needs of geoscience applications.
